A physical examination by your doctor will confirm the presence of a hernia. Usually the hernia will increase in size with an increase in abdominal pressure, such as coughing, bending, lifting or even straining making the hernia more noticeable.
Once a diagnosis of a hernia has been made, your GP may arrange for a surgical consultation as surgery is the only way to correct most abdominal wall hernias.
