Up to 10% of hernias can recur using traditional hernia techniques. With modern techniques and in the experienced hands of surgeons at the Scottish Hernia Centre, recurrence rates of less than 1% can be expected.
Surgery is considered the only cure, and the prognosis is excellent if the hernia is corrected before it becomes strangulated.
